Tissue culture aquarium plants are aquatic plants grown in sterile, closed laboratories to ensure they are free of pests, algae, and pesticides. They are grown in nutrient-rich jelly called agar, which is different for each plant variety, and sealed in a sterile container. The plants don’t need water to grow while in the container, as long as they have light.
